Kelly Smith Trimble

Bio

Kelly is the Senior Director of Editorial and Content Strategy at HGTV, leading the team of editors who assign, create, and distribute HGTV content for the website, newsletters, social accounts and syndication partners. She has worked for HGTV and its sister brands, including Food Network, for 12 years, based in HGTV’s hometown of Knoxville, Tennessee.

Experience

Kelly has 25 years of experience working in lifestyle media, particularly focused on home and garden topics, and has worked as an editor and writer for other well-known brands including DIY Network, Southern Living, Bonnie Plants and Lowe’s.

A certified Master Gardener through Auburn University, Kelly has written two books on vegetable gardening, Vegetable Gardening Wisdom and The Creative Vegetable Gardener, and served as a contributing editor to the American Horticulture Society’s new Essential Guide to Organic Vegetable Gardening.

Through HGTV’s social video platforms, Kelly answered 100s of vegetable gardening questions in a series called Dig It, with more than a million views, from her home garden in 2020-2021. Kelly has been quoted for her gardening expertise in many media outlets including The Washington Post, Real Simple, Better Homes & Gardens, and The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

In addition to growing vegetables, Kelly is also a seasoned home cook and enjoys preserving the harvest. She spends as much time as possible in nature and is currently working on her Southern Appalachian Naturalist Certification. She lives with her husband, photographer Derek Trimble, and their Australian shepherd, Rufus.

Education

Kelly graduated summa cum laude from Sewanee: The University of the South with a B.A. in English and Concentration in Environmental Studies in 2000. She earned an M.S. in Environmental Studies from Prescott College’s Green Mountain Center for Sustainability in 2011. Kelly is a certified Master Gardener through Auburn University. She is also a 200-hour certified yoga teacher.
