Keith Bynum and Evan Thomas, hosts of Bargain Block, are Detroit-based renovation powerhouses. Using Keith's creativity and Evan's building skills, these two transform once-dilapidated properties into charming and unique homes. As much as this duo enjoys working in Detroit, every once in a while they're down for a road trip. In their recent five-episode spinoff, Bargain Block New Orleans, Keith and Evan put their Detroit expertise to the test by flipping run-down properties in New Orleans. Ahead, explore our favorite of Keith and Evan's Big Easy design ideas (complete with wrought iron railings, arched doorways, corbels and more). You might even want to try these at home.
To revive the exterior of the Creole cottage, Keith and Evan opted for drop siding and antique-inspired doors for a classic Creole style. To make it softer on the eyes, they swapped out the stark white paint job for a creamier white tone, which they then offset with taupe railings and frames. They also refurbished the ironwork to maintain an iconic NOLA touch.
In New Orleans, Mardi Gras fun lives on 365 days a year. With that in mind, Keith and Evan gave one of their NOLA properties a themed green-and-gold exterior, then dubbed it the Mardi Gras house. And, as a nod to the customs of the city, they painted the underside of the roof light blue to keep bad spirits away.
The Mardi Gras theme continues inside the house, where Keith and Evan incorporated subtle pops of purple, green, gold, black and white in an understated way that looks anything but tacky. One of our favorite statements? The black and white circus-esque coffee table. Très chic.
