Our Mission

Since the site began in 2003 — nine years after HGTV launched as the home and garden cable network in 1994 — HGTV.com has been a resource for inspiration and advice for home design and decorating, remodeling, outdoor living and gardening, and how-to and home improvement projects. Over the years, we’ve also met audience demand for advice about cleaning and organizing, and entertaining. While our shows are at our core, our digital editors take the inspiration and advice a step further, helping you bring the ideas you see on HGTV to life in your own home.

Experience and Expertise

Our editorial team, both staff editors and freelance writers, includes journalists and home and garden experts with years of experience researching, testing and writing articles and step-by-step how-to instructions. While we are seasoned experts, we create content for all levels of homeowners and DIYers, with particular attention to beginners. Many of the same trusted HGTV editors and writers also vigorously test products and make recommendations as our shopping experts.

Commitment to Originality and Credibility

On our digital platforms, we publish and update content daily, holding to editorial standards of accuracy and originality. When topics go beyond our own experience or expertise, we consult and interview outside experts — including accredited individuals as well as governmental, professional and academic organizations — and we credit our sources. When DIY projects are inspired by others’ ideas, we give them recognition. Furthermore, we do not use AI technology to replace original research and writing. We aim for engaging, authoritative, story-driven, human-centered content.

Transparency and Testing

Our writers are not allowed to accept products, services or press trips in exchange for coverage in our content. We only recommend products we truly believe are worthy of a spot in our fans' homes. We test products in real homes that reflect our readers’ real lives, and we follow rigorous testing rubrics designed by our expert editors.
