Chelsea Deboer’s Holiday Hot Chocolate Recipe Will Warm You Up This Winter

Get cozy this season with the Down Home Fab host's favorite hot chocolate recipe — perfect for your cozy night or holiday gathering.

On HGTV's Down Home Fab, husband-and-wife hosts Chelsea and Cole Deboer show us what it takes to run an incredible renovation business in their hometown of Sioux Falls, South Dakota — all while raising four kids on a beautiful farm. In honor of the holiday season, they took a break from their busy lives to give us a glimpse of their holiday traditions, which includes a very yummy hot chocolate recipe.

"It's always freezing cold outside here, so hot chocolate is a necessity," says Chelsea. "There's six people in our family so we do a Crock-Pot version, because we can never have enough."

Chelsea's kid-pleasing recipe is perfect for snow days. She recommends throwing the recipe together in a slow cooker in the morning so it's ready to go at any time. "We go outside and play, and by the time we come back in, it's perfect," she says.

Ahead: how to make it at home.

Ingredients

  • 1-1/2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 can of sweetened condensed milk (14 oz)
  • 2 cups milk chocolate chips
  • 6 cups of milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

Add all the ingredients to a large slow cooker and whisk everything together.

Cook on low for two hours, stirring occasionally to keep the chocolate from burning on the bottom.

Serve warm in your favorite mug (Chelsea recommends this festive one from her home line, Aubree Says) with marshmallows or other fun toppings.

DeBoer pro tip: During the holidays Chelsea and Cole go big and pile toppings onto a cheese board for maximum fun. They recommend including whipped cream, crushed candy canes, sea salt caramel sauce or chocolate shavings.
